Where In The World Is Waldo Lake  Bottom

  • I wanted to post this announcement for all of us that are less inclined to look at the upcoming events section of the site. I am labeling this as an event, rather than a race. More of a Beach Cat get together and social gathering in one of the coolest places on the planet earth. It does however take some advance planning to save the time and if you want to camp at the lake to make reservations while they are available.

    ____________________________________________________________________________

This is a Beach Cat event, a get together of boaters that want to sail on one of the most pristine lakes in the world and to get together and ogle each others boats and to socialize. This is a very large lake situated at 5,472 ft. in the central Cascade Mountains of Oregon. The water is so clear here that you can see through well over 100 ft. and it is also quite deep in places. There are no power boats on this lake and the ones that are there have a 10 mile an hour speed limit (a number that most of us can break easily). The wind tends to come up very nicely in the afternoon. In the morning there are great hiking and biking trails throughout the area.

There are three campgrounds on the lake. We can focus our gathering at the North Lake Waldo campground because it has a large boat ramp. But the two other campgrounds will also work. There are also cabins available at Odell and Crescent Lakes nearby. Hotels will be further away in Eugene, Sunriver or even Bend, Oregon. While we are outside the reservation window now, these campgrounds and other facilities book up early, so if this is of interest to you please take action early.

There is really only one big downside to this lake and that is the mosquitoes also love it. They are not an issue while on the lake, but in the campground they can be overwhelming, particularly when the wind is not blowing (in the morning and later in the evening). So be prepared with a bug proof shelter and some deet and you will be fine.

So Google Waldo Lake and take a look.

The following link takes you to the reservation site for the North Campground.

Feel free to contact me for more information and to suggest ideas for what this “event” might look like. It is also OK for Californians to come visit for this event icon_smile
