Hobie 18 Travelers came standard with a "ball" and a "slider". Over the years, in order to reduce friction many sailors replaced the slider with a ball. As the fleet has aged, and sailors have rebuilt their travelers to improve the function, the existing inventory of Hobie 18 traveler balls has been completely used up. Now, the only thing available from Hobie Cat is the "slider" The Catalogue price on a pair of "sliders is over $15.00
We have recreated an exact replacement for the original Hobie Traveler Ball and they are now available in pairs with the correct size stainless steel cotter pin included. The complete kit is only $11.95 plus $3.95 shipping and handling. If you order more than one kit, the shipping remains only $3.95.
The New replacements are made of Delrin, just as the original ones.
The superior performance characteristics of Delrin include but are not limited to:
Delrin's resistance to liquids and low coefficient of friction have also made it useful as a bearing-replacement, to be selected in cases where corrosive environments make a traditional roller or ball bearing impractical.
Its low cost, adequate strength, light weight and self lubricating properties make it ideal.
Nylon-based products such as Nylatron do not have good moisture-resistance, and are therefore not suitable to high-humidity or underwater applications.

I purchased 2 sets. These are very well made and match the new Hobie OEM ball that I still have. I couldn't take the time to make some for the price he is offering them at. DVL
