Making a Forward Mast Cradle for Trailering

By Sonny Barber

Get one of those mast holders (Murrays or KISME?) that go over the rear traveler track and hold the mast in a "clamshell" clamp. Remove the part that fits over the track. Remove the yoke from the mast holder. Put the bottom of the tang of the clamshell in the c channel or the inside front of the square tubing if that's what you have. Drill new holes as needed in the mast holder. Bolt the tang up. I always mix up some chopped glass with epoxy to fill the cavity in the tang. It's quick way to secure and remove the mast, and very tough. The one on my 16' trailer has been there five years, and still going strong. Couple this with a whole one at the rear, and you have one most stable ways to carry a mast. It just can't bounce around. Has been very UV resistant.
