What a great summer! I've been doing more sailing than usual, especially since I started racing. Almost missed the Ventura Bluewater, but was able to make the 2nd day. Will definately be at the Regatta in Santa Barbara this weekend. Hope to see some readers there.

Unfortunately, I may have seen some readers at the regattas, but it would have been difficult to know who they are. It will be easier this time with our new sail number index. It's a bit of an experiment at the moment, but we built an index from our readers page which lists boats and owners in order of sail number. If you plan on attending a regatta in the near future, you may want to print this list and bring it along. I banged this out pretty quick with some homemade programming, so send me a note if you see any errors. I welcome comments on how useful this list is.

Another aspect of racing is that it prompts you to buy stuff for your boat. Since I have no local Hobie dealers, I always turn to Murray's Marine for my sailing needs. It is likely that many of you do the same. This month we interview Steve Murray himself. Now's your chance to get to know the man behind those boxes that come in the mail.

A while back, Dave Stearns sent me a "captain's log" of his adventures as a new sailor. I found this to be one of the most entertaining reads I've had in quite some time. When you're a beginner, you either get help from someone or are forced to bumble through it on your own. Dave Stearns does the later and tells us the story.

William Wallick reviews a video this month in his regular column "On The Bookshelf". When you're not sailing, you can still enjoy the sport with a TV and VCR. My thanks to Bill for his continuing contributions.

Kim Miller provides some chuckles this month with his reasons why your cat is just another phallic symbol. It's okay. He's a reverend.

We've gone almost a year with this thing, and frankly, I can't believe it. I'm running low on fuel here, so need to beg for articles again. If you've got anything at all to share, drop me a line.

Sail fast, sail safe,

Well, I missed last months issue, sometimes I get so damn busy the time just slips away.

Looks like Bill's putting together a really great issue for this month, with the interview with Steve Murray. I'm sure you'd like to meet the guy who we all send some serious money to. (Well at least to me is seems serious). I met Steve in Santa Barbara last year, and watched him sail in one of the NACRA regattas.

Bill's started to get into the racing scene, and I'm sure he'll be writing about his experiences in that area.

While most of our readers may race often, his insight may help those of us who would like to race but may be somewhat apprehensive to start. While I plan to start racing also, my schedule is prohibitive at this time. I need to rely on our readership to keep Bill somewhat busy. Send him E-mails or whatever. When he gets bored, he wants to strap me into some kind of a rocket propelled contraption, and I'm not in any hurry to eat my dinner through a straw again.

Happy Sailing...
