Catamaran Sailing

I'm probably not the only one going crazy waiting for summer. Well, it's almost here. Rather than pace the floors waiting for the mercury to rise, why not start using this time to get the boat ready to go?

There's quite a few sailors out there who consider fighting with the rudders to be one of those unpleasant neccessities of sailing. David Hall is not one of them, and you don't have to be either. Don't miss David's excellent article on how to take the "slop" out of your rudders and make them work like they are supposed to. I personally plan on taking this project on before the season starts. If you do too, make sure and write us regarding your experience.

Hulls wearing thin? Patti Lanphear provides an account of her experience repairing hull bottoms. This fine article includes hull templates provided by Matt Miller of Hobie Cat. With Patti's advice, and the Hobie templates, your hull bottoms can look new again.

Kim Miller is back! This time with Kim Miller's Guide to Catamaran Capsizing. Show those monos that we can capsize with the best of them.

Okay, I'm so proud of the cover photo, I have to mention it here. While sailing at Mission Bay in San Diego a couple seasons ago, I picked up a water proof camera. It took a bit of concentration, but I took this picture while trapped out on the flying hull. It also took a bit of trust, since Frank was driving at the time. The blurred picture on the right of Frank screaming was also taken from the trapeze, but this is a different story altogether, and would be best suited on the cover of a special issue on pitchpoles. (Yes, that diagonal line is the horizon). No concentration here, just a camera pointed in a random direction and fear driven muscles hitting a shutter button.

On The Wire welcomes our newest sponsor, Small Craft Advisories. Be sure and thank both Matt Miller of Hobie Cat (hobieqna@aol.com) and Mark Michealson of Small Craft Advisories (sailcenter@aol.com) for bringing you On The Wire.

Enjoy the issue, and remember that we are always looking for content. If you would like your story to appear in our pages, drop us a line. We are getting some great stuff. This is your site, so keep 'em coming!

Sail fast, sail safe,

Well, as usual, this editorial will just make it "Under The Wire". As Bill is sleeping off his drive down from Northern California, I thought I'd pound this out before going down to the catamaran swap meet in Newport. Don't know if I'll find anything I need, but if your not sailing, talking and looking at sailing stuff has got to be right up there.

Looks like we've got some pretty cool stuff this month, with the much appreciated help from our readers. I've heard we are "One of the best E-zines" on the web, and the compliment is well appreciated.

Well, normally I would drive over to Bill's house and "Beat the crap" out of him for getting this issue out a couple of hours late, but with all you "bleeding family-oriented hearts" out there, that could turn nasty to me. I'll let it slide this time.

Gotta go, and hope you enjoy this months issue.

ps: I hope to take some pictures at the swap meet. With a little luck, you won't
see me on the news. (Bill requested I show up without any pants on).

Houston, this is launch control. We have liftoff.
