About the place:
Belize is in Central America, used to be British Honduras. English Speaking with the second longest Barrier Reef in the world. At only 15 miles off the coast and 150 miles long conditions are like sailing in the worlds largest bathub with 82 degree water steady winds. Un-like Austrila, where the barrier reef is almost inaccessable to beach cats, it is a quick trip to this reef. The trip out is all in protected water and there is minimal surf for launching off the main land beach at any time & any wind conditions. Once at the reef the water is Sheltered but the caribbean winds are steady over the reef. The Drag strip Between Water & Tobbaco Cays is caused by A 10 mile streach of North South reef that breaks the surface from 1000 feet on the east side. 200 yards inside the reef in a low chop the easterlies flowing in off the Caribbean fill your sail for a reach on Glass over bright coral and Manta rays the size of your tramp. Under the Sun has been running Hobie Cats off the beach for 6 years and we now have the village fishermen aware of our need for help at times. If you need a rescue plan on a small tip. 10 to 15 bucks is nice for a rescue if you need it and for $25 you can hire a guy to hang out on the beach with a safety boat. Trafic is at a minimum. You may see 10 boats a day on 100+ square miles of water with 100s of Islands & Cays to visit & explore. Camping & Lodgeing are available on the main Land & at the reef.
