San Luis Reservoir - Los Banos, CA USA

Wind Conditions: Excellent
Water Conditions: Good
Launch facilities: Fair
Beach conditions: Poor
Traffic conditions: Excellent
Safety: Poor

Charges: $5 day use; $1 non-powered boat launch fee

About the place:
Located off Hwy 152 (Pacheco Pass) about 5 miles from Interstate 5. There are two boat launch ramps; one on the west side and one on the south side. Used both; west ramp (Dinosaur Point) is accessed from Hwy 152 near the Pacheco Pass summit. Low summer water levels make this one a poor choice for sailors due to the narrow inlet that you have to sail through to reach the main body of the lake. The south side ramp is accessed from the main entrance to the recreation area near the bottom of the dam on the southeast side of the lake. This one allows for unobstructed access to the lake. Wind is usually westerly and strong, sometimes exceeding 30kts. Power boat / PWC traffic is usually very light or non-existant. Beaches consist of steep, rocky cliffs or mud flats, so don't plan on doing much more than launching-sailing-leaving.
