Typhoon International sponsored SNECCA circuit covers whole of Scotland and the North East of England.

St. Thomas, USVI -- It was the Caribbean, but that didn't mean sailors were laid back when they hit the starting line at St. Thomas Yacht Club's 2003 International Rolex Regatta in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tough competition, warm tropical breezes, blue-water courses and a mix of island culture and energy were on tap from March 28-30 as the annual event celebrated its 30th edition with a new look and a notable increase in entrants-97 to be exact.

Tybee 500

There is a new kid on the block when it comes to beachcat adventure. The first annual Tybee 500 distance race, to be sailed May 12-17, starts in the Florida Keys and ends up over 500 miles north at Tybee Island, Georgia. The six leg event is designed, in the words of the founder Chuck Bargeron,

"To give beachcat sailors a chance to find out what long distance racing is all about."
Note: Information for this article was obtained by telephone interview with the race owner, Chuck Bargeron.

My wife and I took a beachcat sailing trip to Belize in February 2003. The trip was such a disappointment we decided to share the experience with as many people as possible, hoping we would help others avoid our misfortune.
Note: It's a shame this trip turned out so bad, I used to day-dream about this "adventure". At least other sailors will know what to expect, thanks Bill.

*** Press Release from the Worrell 1000 ***

The management of the Worrell 1000 regrets to announce that the 2003 Worrell 1000 is cancelled. A key investor defaulted on his financial commitment to fund the acquisition of charter boats and subsequent efforts for alternate financing simply ran out of time. Neither Bimare Catamarans, the North American Bimare Distributor, W.F. Oliver, nor the F-18HT class share any responsibility in this matter.

Note: This is quite a shock to me, I was looking forward to following the race.
