Tybee 500
There is a new kid on the block when it comes to beachcat adventure. The first annual Tybee 500 distance race, to be sailed May 12-17, starts in the Florida Keys and ends up over 500 miles north at Tybee Island, Georgia. The six leg event is designed, in the words of the founder Chuck Bargeron, "To give beachcat sailors a chance to find out what long distance racing is all about." Note: Information for this article was obtained by telephone interview with the race owner, Chuck Bargeron.

The management of the Worrell 1000 regrets to announce that the 2003 Worrell 1000 is cancelled. A key investor defaulted on his financial commitment to fund the acquisition of charter boats and subsequent efforts for alternate financing simply ran out of time. Neither Bimare Catamarans, the North American Bimare Distributor, W.F. Oliver, nor the F-18HT class share any responsibility in this matter. Note: This is quite a shock to me, I was looking forward to following the race.
